House Speaker Sonny Belmonte has created a committee to review the filed statements of assets, liabilities and net worth of congressmen which will also formulate the rules for its release to the public.
In Special Order 05-12, Belmonte appointed Erico Aumentado as chairman of the committee, with Giorgidi Aggabao, Tomas Apacible, Rodolfo Antonino and Rufus Rodriguez as members.
the committee will determined whether the saln’s are submitted on time, complete and in the proper form, and if not, inform the individual concerned to make the necessary correction. it will also render any opinion interpreting the SALN provision of Republic ACT 6713 or the code of conduct and ethical standards for public officials and employees, subject to the approval of the plenary.
Belmonte signed the order on June 18, 2012.
The creation of the SALN committee was the HOR’s response after it was pressed to make public the saln of congressmen following the impeachment of chief justice renato corona.
corona was impeached and removed by the senate from office for failing to declare foreign currency assets in his saln.
Based on the order the Committee, known as the Review and Compliance Committee, will not only reviews the SALN of the congressmen, but also of the HOR’s employees.
MEANWHILE
The Judicial and Bar Council eyes a swift disqualification of obviously non-qualified nominees and applicants for the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
JBC member, House Justice Committee Chairman Niel Tupas, Jr said, “when we meet after he the July 2 deadline, we will disqualify the applicants who are clearly disqualified.”
Tupas made the comment as the number of nominees and applicants swelled to at least 38.
the JBC has extended the deadline for nominations to July 2.
