Controversial Bills on Reproductive Health, Freedom of Information and the Legalization of Divorce in the Philippines will be prioritized by the House of Representatives when it opens its 3rd regular Session in late July.

House Speaker Sonny Belmonte says many bills have also been approved on 2nd reading and ready for approval on 3rd reading. He doesn’t think the filing of candidacies for the May 2013 elections in October will  affect their work since the campaign period wont be till next year. Continue reading

APPROVED: SIN TAXES; 4 OTHER BILLS

The House of Representatives beat the deadline to approve its version of the sin tax bill before adjourning its 2nd regular session, sine die, Wednesday night.

Voting 210-21-5,the plenary approved the measure on 3rd reading just moments after it approved the measure on 2nd reading.

House Speaker Sonny Belmonte welcomed the passage of the bill, and thanked his colleagues for their work.
