Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s legal spokesperson Raul
Lambino today dismissed as useless efforts to reinvestigate the
controversial Hello Garci audio recordings of 2005.
Lambino stressed that the recordings are spurious, considering the
master recording has never been found for it to be authenticated.
Lambino notes considering the technology in todays’ world, it would be
very easy to fabricate the recordings. Of the recordings, Lambino
said, “only proves one thing one woman and a man talking with each
other on the phone doesn’t prove there was election cheating that’s
only the probative value. Where is the master tape if youre going to
present this as evidence in court…with high technology you can just
splice every conversation recorded and put that into one tape or disc
and you can just select the statements therein to suit your purpose.
…walang ibang patutunguhan ito kungdi patuloy na pagdiin sa paninira
kay dating pang. arroyo matagal nang pinag usapan iyan alam na may
ganiyang tape paulit ulit yun napag usapan na. “
Lambino also reiterated Arroyo and Bedol are not friends and that they
did not talk about rigging the elections. “ the president has never
been a good friend of bedol she has not talked to mr bedol about his
allegations of cheating in 2004 these are speculations, fabricated
statements of bedol.”
Lambino also today defended the general silence of his principal on
issues raised against her, saying it is not an indication of any
guilt.
ABS-CBN News asked Lambino why Arroyo just can’t be upfront about the
issues if only to finally disprove perceptions that silence is an
indication of guilt. He responded by saying she is within her
constitutional rights and is just following sound legal advice
considering the highly charged political atmosphere. “ with me as
legal spokesman to give some response to all these accusations, were
trying to air her side in the way we believe as far as political value
of all these statements were doing its so calculated so we do not to
provide other party hints or free legal advice to them.”
Lambino stressed Arroyo is answering the allegations through a
spokesperson to avoid giving her opponents undue advantage. “we know
the personality involved are high profile personalities…you cannot
remove that…that’s the reason why mrs. arroyo will have to respond to
all these accusations through a lawyer.… We advice her not to talk.
silence is not guilt that’s her constitutional right but it does not
mean she has done any wrongdoing…
Lambino added, “ some lawyers have the view considering so many
accusations have been discussed in the media it would not be sound to
give further comments many lawyers saying that that it would be better
to make no statements because statements provided by respondent or her
lawyers would in one way or another be used to telegraph the
strategy.”
Lambino also said the attacks are meant to cover up for President
Aquino’s lack of accomplishments. “Issues inumpisahan gawin iyan 2 or
3 buwan bago magsona umiinit dumarami habang papalapit sona tawag ko
sa sona state of no accomplishment kaya sasabihin nila sa kanilang
sona irereport nila pinagagawa sa dating pang arroyo 90 to 95% ng
laman patama kay dating pang. Arroyo.”
However Lambino maintained confidence This will not prevent Arroyo
from attending the SONA. “Kung ako tatanungin niya di ko siya
papuntahain di ko pa alam gagawin niya. Pero sa lahat ng sesyon ng
kongreso siya’y dumalo wala siyang kahit isang absent nagtrabaho siya
ng masipag naging masigasig sa panunungkulan bilang kinatawan sa
kaniyang distrito sa Pampanga.”
Lambino added that even Palace deputy spokesman Abigail valte’s recent
statement linking an alleged destabilization plot against Aquino to
Arroyo is another instance of vilification. “amateurish siguro kasama
